About Clusters Why focus on SMEs Why Clustering Activities that could improve the SME Advantages of the Cluster Approach The Roadmap : Cluster for Competitiveness Types of Clusters and Who can join ? Ongoing Clusters

As is evident from the results of many clusters implemented till date, it is obvious that clustering can help achieve objectives of global competitiveness. Recognising the importance of this concept and keeping in mind the success of the Mohali and Gurgaon cluster, the immediate past President CII, Mr. Sunil Kant Munjal mandated the organisation to launch as many clusters throughout the country.
Since then CII has successfully marched on to launch 59 cluster & reaching out to nearly 500 companies out of which 32 are on going clusters covering 263 companies. However, the successfully completed 27 clusters have impacted 231 companies.

Based on the success obtained in these two clusters, the then CII President, Mr. Sunil Kant Munjal, has set a target to launch at least 100 clusters during the current financial year. This is likely to have a direct impact on the 1,000 participating companies and many more indirectly. CII is thus enabling SME’s to become world class organizations further helping India achieve global recognition in the manufacturing sector. CII has already implemented the cluster project in 21 other locations in India. The results from these clusters have been as expected. Depending on the success of the clusters over the next two years, CII proposes to take this project further with a multiplier effect to create more CII Clusters for competitiveness. This is the best way to reach out to large number of SME’s with a multiplier effect and, therefore, also the most cost effective way.
